My name is Shirley Judge Blount, and I am a 71-year-old grandmother of seven grandchildren, with the youngest being a few days old and the oldest being 17 years old. I worked as a Teacher’s Assistant for 15 years in the Durham, NC public school system. I have been married for 41 years. My husband and I moved to Tampa, FL, to retire, where I have been working as a Substitute Teacher for the last three years. I know firsthand how children tend to gravitate towards others who look like them. My goal in writing my published book, Mommy, Why Come? is to encourage children to be all that they can be and were created to be as well as to be open to everyone, regardless.
Accepting Differences (Series 1) is written to encourage children to accept others who are not like them and to be proud of who they are, regardless of what they look like on the outside.
Being Bullied: Maybe I’ll Tell and Maybe I Won’t (Series 2) is written to let children know what to do if they are bullied and to encourage them to tell other adults in their lives.
“Uncle” Ben Visits (Series 3) is written to let children know what to do if they are being touched inappropriately.
Riley Goes to Dog Heaven (Series 4) is written to help children through the grieving process of losing a loved one, like a family member, friend, or a pet.
